During post duty rounds our prof asks an inpatient "how did u consume these bangle pieces?"...she answers calmly "with mudde saar",myself and a pg were literally rofl there.

back to surgery now after anaesthesia....this minor posting shd have been a good relaxing period for us after med but unluckily it turned out to be quite the opposite.Daily9am-2pm[!] OT work + night duties made it sickening.Now that the new pgs were there we even lost the chance to learn intubation[tracheal] which was the only productive thing[atleast we can do it in casualty] possible to learn in anaes.More over the profs inside OT every now and then used to monitor us asking some stupid unnecessary theory qns which made it even more depressing[really hate them!].We do got chances to give spinal anaesthesia but to be frank its of no use practically anywhere else[atleast in casualty].Only thing positive was that i could study for my entrance quite a bit.

p.s-
out of 7 tries in giving spinal anaes i succeeded only in 3.way to emergency OT[hell to interns at night]

lazyness

have been too lazy these days..not getting enough motivation or interest to do anything..all i do is sleep or waste time online.
Bunked anesthesia today...really hate it...may be that am[interns] are not getting to learn anything productive and all we do in that OT is monitor the patients[which any layman can do] or just stand there looking at paralyzed patients.Just 2 more days to go and then have surgery.
Watched King kong movie...really a jawbreaker movie with good story,terrific graphics.Best part was the last scene where Jack black just comments "Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast."!!

have been listening to this song recently and i just love it..one of the few songs whose lyrics i really liked...laree choote from '140 ki last local" movie

Frost Nixon-4/5

Frost Nixon-A dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon.
Simply loved it for its compelling storyline,great acting and for some fine direction[was selected as one of the best 10 movies of 2008 by AFI].....while watching it felt like am seeing an action movie.
p.s-
I rated it 9/10 in imdb which it truly deserves.

doc or mechanic?

this is my 4th day in anesthesia and am already bored of this short posting...whole day u just stand there in OT and look at the surgeons do their job.
We interns do get chances [for giving spinal etc] and exposure wise its really good but frankly i feel this field is not for me where the work is just mechanical[like monitoring patients,push iv inj] and is wholly dependent on the surgeons with whom u have to work with.Moreover i enjoy talking to people and want to get into a clinical side where the interaction with people is more personal and satisfactory[though radiology is still an option wide open;)].
So now i have atleast one option less for my pg!!...

i absolutely agree with this quote and even follow it so some extent[not possible always]...when ever bored or down or uninterested this little thing really lifts me up and lets me enjoy wht i do...its just another way of seeing a glass half full instead of half empty.Some may think its just another quote by a philosopher but to really know it just try it out once and feel the difference...

this is life

totally enjoying[read relaxing] anaes postings now..its for 15 days[part of surgery]...after med am finding this heaven and hope i utilize it as much as possible.
Postings are for just half a day and after that am planning to study little bit and watch some good movies!!After being in hell for 45 days its time to realize what heaven is[anesthesia] and totally enjoy and cherish it!!:)

bored,frustrated

After 4 weeks of med am totally bored,frustrated and fed up with it...apart from a docs job u also have to do that of an attender like report collection etc and on top of this we have[from this week] to do both icu and swine flu duty.Icu duty now has been extended for 12 hrs now[each shift] and apart from the work its the sound pollution[of ventilators,nurses etc] which irritates u the most and now days coz of too much work load have even lost interest in the cases i come across.Think i really need some stress management lessons right now and an appointment with docs at room 55
Next of batch students r surely gonna suffer with so many duties from the beginning itself.

p.s-
1-n95 mask given to us during swine flu duty...and unluckily 4 of them[a whole family] just isolated here have been found positive for swine flu!!...

at 5am today[during my emergency duty] a patient walks in to the casualty and says that he is having loose stools and needs iv fluids[they just demand here].So when i asked him the frequency of the stools patient calmly replies back "150 times"!

a 2nd yr nursing student asks our pg during rounds "sir i want to know some systemic causes of Scissors?"(she meant to say Seizures)

monday has finally arrived...that means its opd day and time for night duty...!!...to be frank i dont like just sitting in opd like a duck and prescribe med to the patients instead i prefer to work in emergency and in the wards....ok then guys bye for now...happy weekday!!..:)

p.s-
no more icu duties for me from this week instead we have SWINE flu duties here in our hosp[inaugrated just yesterday]....one intern and one senior resident are posted here on a rotation basis.

Sharks In Your Life

The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades.

So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh. The Japanese did not like the taste.

To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer. However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower price.

So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive. Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste.

The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish. So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan? How Japanese managed to keep the fish fresh?

To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each tank. The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state. The fish are challenged.

Have you realized that some of us are also living in a pond but most of the time tired & dull, so we need a Shark in our life to keep us awake and moving? Basically in our lives Sharks are new challenges to keep us active and taste better….. The more intelligent, persistent and competent you are, the more you enjoy a challenge.

During rounds a patient bit by a snake says to our unit prof "saar(sir) it[snake] just hissed once and i got this bite"
myself and the pgs were literally rofl on hearing this..as if via bluetooth its venom got into his body!!

wtf moments

in the wards one patient attender comes to me and tells "doctor my husband's urine collection bag is full..wht shd i do?"...i just calmly replied back saying now whether shd i do the cleaning work also for her!!!...

in the morning post opd day when i confidently said to one of the pgs that i have done the work he had told me to do[ecg and xray] and pointed out my finger towards the patient he says "why are u pointing out in that direction when the patient is right in front of u"...actually wht had happened was there were 2 Anands in the wards and unfortunately i had done the investigations for the wrong person.

p.s-except cleaning and feeding the patients they make us do everything here[or atleast patients think we r here for tht sake]

DAMA

On the first day of my medicine during night duty 2 interns were talking to each other saying that 2 patients went DAMA and they have to write their case sheets...i thought then that using DAMAR[heard it so] word is such a inhuman thing [since DAMAR is a slang word for dead in Kannada] to use for any patient that too among the public there.Later i came to know that DAMA is not DAMAR but acronym for Discharge Against Medical Advice..lol

p.s-one of my friends when told on the phone by a prof that give the patient DAMA replied back "dose sir??"!!!

happy weekend...today again an icu duty till 8pm!!:(...there goes my so called sunday.

life in med

this is my 2nd week in medicine and now i feel have quite well adjusted to my work...

on mondays i will be too busy as its opd day and on the same day after 4 will have emergency duty[till 4 in the morning]...this is one place where i really enjoy working...every case u come across here will be critical and hardly u get time to think on the spot there...from poisoning ,suicide cases to kidney,liver failure u get to see all sorts of cases and some times the patients input will be so high that u don't get beds for the patients and experience wise also u learn everything from a nurse job to that of a doc...
next day will be ur post opd day where the profs concerned see the cases and advice the pgs[its more of finding fault in what u have not done]...imagine one prof,2 assistant,7pgs and 3 interns going together for rounds...i just love this part and its when u get the feeling like a real doc...
on other days ur[read interns] just busy doing investigations and collection reports and writing discharge summaries....
overall i have started enjoyingmy work but unluckily my studies have really been affected.

p.s-one more night icu duty tomo.....so one more day of less sleep and more work....
