had our first surgey OT[operation theatre] today...nothing much to tell about it ..just saw that hernia case get operated and one gallstones case!..will be posting the pics soon!!![by tomorrow]....bye for now!!....

lazy sunday

hmm..its sunday today and as usual no mood to do anything constructive[read studying etc!]....got up at 11.am[!!]..just had my breakfast now and now blogging!..in the evening may watch a movie or so...this has been my routine on sundays from past few weeks and really trying to change it a bit like more studying and all[which unfortunately not able to do today!:(]..anyways one good news is that karnataka elections result is out and BJP [the party i voted for] have almost won it with a simple majority and happy that i played a role in it:D[with my single vote!]!!!...ok the reason i am writing this post is that i wanted to share some funny kannada slang words....here are some of those...

ECBS.."everyone cant be a surgeon"...its a statement told by many and am one of those who believe in it!!...coz to be a surgeon first of all u need to have real interest in it and must have atleast 2 of the following criteria..eye of an eagle,fingers of a women and heart of a lion!!!..i may have the first one,certainly not the 2nd one and doubt about the 3rd :D..[may develop it in the future]...our surgery postings have started but this time we are posted in a unit[7 of us] which seems to be the worst unit in the department[hope am wrong!]!! and more over only our unit[5th] is situated in 1st floor of B and LC and all other in 2nd floor so unluckily we cant join other unit classes[like in medicine] unless informed beforehand!..until now we have presented only one case ie hernia[considered as graveyard in surgery exams!] where the patient had b/l indirect incomplete hernia. fortunately was highly co-operative and so we could do many of the tests on him!!..

in the last few days many would have read about HOOCH tragedy in Karnataka where about 120 people died because of consumption of illicit liquor[also called ARRACK]..actually the problem in these beverages is that Methyl alcohol[ being cheap] is added to ethyl alcohol and which being more toxic results in blood acidosis[due to accumulation of formic acid] causing respiratory failure[as in these cases] and death!!!...a huge protest was organized in B and LC hospital regarding the same accusing the govn of not taking adequate measures which resulted in their death..[some of it is actually true since B and LC hospital doesn't have any ICU unit unlike in Victoria!]

hmm...

hmm..finally obg internals got over today and it didn't go well as expected and frankly my preparations also were not so good!!..anyways its over now so no use in brooding over it!...today just blogging and may watch some movie..and guess what, Rc again lost to delhi yesterday[as expected] and we people in bangalore here have lost pretty much interest in ipl because of their pathetic performance:(..our surgery postings started yesterday and unluckily its also in B and LC hospital [like medicine] this time..so much of the time will be wasted in traveling and all...

really having a nightmare now since obg(obstetrics and gynecology) internals[on super Tuesday!] are fast approaching and am trying to gobble up everything possible from the text[from today evening!] to complete my first reading of the chapters alloted for the internals..only god knows when i will do my 2nd revision!!...will not be blogging till tuesday, so bye guys!!...enjoy the weekdays!!..:)

my heart felt homage to the people of Jaipur which was rattled by eight bomb blasts on Tuesday evening that left at least 63 people dead and nearly 300 injured...:)...hope political parties don't politicize this issue and will put their sincere efforts in providing relief to the people affected !!!

finally its over!!..

yeah finally our medicine postings came to an end today with an internal.. case given to me was that of alcoholic liver disease,unfortunately patient was highly uncooperative but somehow managed to take the case and present it to our assistant professor [who managed to point out few silly highly subjective mistakes!!]...over all my medicine postings in B and LC hospital [Bowring and Lady Curzon] was pretty good[would have been better with more effort] where we saw many good cases [about 7-8 per week]..what i liked about it was the enthusiasm shown by our professors including the PGs in teaching us..from next week we have surgery [for 6 weeks] in Victoria hospital and in between unlukily have obg internals coming up on tuesday[hope they postpone it!]...today will just relax and see some movie [21 or vantage point] with my cousin!!..
mean while read these two articles of Ak and big B and see for yourself the way blogs are being [mis]used these days for personal reasons![?]

my best friend

met my best friend [though it was a surprise] yesterday night and was really happy to meet him after such a long time[4months],
we know each other from past 16 years[since ukg-nikker dost!!!]...initially till 7th std we were just friends but once he left Bangalore to his native to continue his high school studies we really become close friends..initially we used to write letter to each other[:)] to keep in touch but that enthusiasm slowly faded and we used to meet only once in a year or so!..finally he came back to Bangalore after his 10th and we continued our preuniversity education together here where our friendship grew to an higher level!...currently hes doing engineering in Hassan"s MCE college and till today we are in great touch,we message each other almost daily and call atleast once a week..i visit him once in 6months or so and must say the turning point in our friendship was during my first visit to his native when we really started sharing almost everything between us!..
this all flashed through my mind yesterday when i met him!!..:))...we may visit again today [if lucky] and really looking forward to it!!!

and as my respect to our friendship i dedicate this poem to him...

the D-Day

finally the D-day has arrived ....yeah its time for election here in Karnataka where the wheels of democracy[?] started gaining momentum...over all 11 districts went for polls today including 28 constituencies in Bangalore itself....
was pretty excited abt it from past few days and finally voted today for the first time in my life!![am 21 u know:D]...it was a pretty easy procedure [thanks to the net where i had got all the relevant information and unlike to my friend] and voted for an X- party and hope it wins it[best among the worst]!!!..then after that went to watch IRON MAN movie with my brothers..movie was quite good[ 3.5/5]...overall day was quite good[entertainment wise!]

thats wat is in my mind now since returning from Mangalore today reason being i have been suffering from travelers diarrhea since morning and hope will be alright by tomorrow!!!..trip had been pretty good [though short] and really enjoyed there with my cousins and relatives!...unlike the previous function this was pretty short which got over by morning itself [muhurta was at 8.45am] and after that some sangeetha program was organized [boring!] following which there was lunch!!!...left the hall in the evening and had to board the Bangalore bus at 9pm...today might just study some thing [hope so!] or may sleep a little!!...

another short trip to Mangalore coming up [of one day] and really looking forward to it..postings till today were quite good where we saw many good cases....finally [and luckily for us:)] got to see a patient with Brocas Aphasia [see my title:D]...yeah there really is a term called Brocas which corresponds to area no 44 in the brain and is roughly situated above and front of our ears ..its anomaly results in a condition called Motor aphasia where the patient[as in our case] inspite of understanding what u say is not able to speak....actually this patient was hypertensive [SBP was 240!!..normal is 120-140] and had brain attack [similar to heart attack] due to this....
yesterday downloaded National Treasure 2 [fan of Nicolas cage!]..will watch it now and then start packing for the trip!!!!!:))....bye!!

Two masked and machete-wielding men who barged into a club in Sydney, Australia, couldn't have picked a worse night for their robbery -- a monthly meeting of bikers.
About 50 burly bikers fought back with tables and chairs -- pretty much anything that wasn't bolted down. One would-be robber was tied up; the other in the hospital.

Police arrested both.

"These guys were absolutely dumb as bricks," Jerry Vancornewal, leader of the bikers, told CNN Thursday. "I can't believe they saw all the bikes parked up front and they were so stupid that they walked past in."

4th week...

yeah its our 4th week in medicine now and already we are overloaded with cases[not that we know everything]..imagine seeing cases like heart failure,lung disease and a hemiplagia [paralysis of both hand and leg on the same side] on the same day back to back from past 2 weeks!...more 2 weeks to go and after that have surgery postings...

case taking experience till now have been pretty good....some of the patients interactions were really weird [and learning] like one lady who had both hands paralysis and till today was cursing her husband for her problem thinking that she contracted it coz of his tb illness...and in another case where the patient was not accepting the fact that he had a lung problem coz of his smoking habits[daily 2-3 beedi packets!!!] and still thinks that he is perfectly alright..and in another case where a patient contracted hiv coz of his risk behavior and when asked about it pretends as if he is an ideal husband [his wife had committed suicide 7 yrs back coz of his alcoholism]

today is workers day [we had to work today also!:( and :)] and also happens to my fathers birthday...wish u all happy workers day and hope u all enjoy ur work [since u spend half of of ur waking hours at work!!!]

TUNIS, Tunisia, April 27 (UPI) -- A Tunisian family alleges their daughter was raped during a telephone conversation with a man, a lawyer for the family said.

The 30-year-old man said he never touched the young woman. But he acknowledged he heard her scream while they were "totally into" an erotic telephone conversation -- and that she reported bleeding, Al Arabiya reported.

Maha al-Metebaa, a lawyer representing the family, told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabs the case needs careful investigation because of its unprecedented allegations. He said a medical examination had determined that the woman, 20, was no longer a virgin.

"The intercourse did take place with all its details but verbally only," he said. "The sexual act did not really happen because the physical proximity factor is not there, yet it happened because there is a direct physical impact – the loss of virginity."

medico-Legal definition of rape [atleast in India]-a man commits rape if he has sexual intercourse with a woman 1)against her will 2) with her consent by putting her in fear 3) false identity 4) with consent but at that time she was in a state of intoxication....

none of these things has happened in the above case and only god and he[the lawyer] knows how such a case can be valid for a legal procedure..!!!!!.......no wonder we are being exploited by the opposite sex!!!...:P

Since we are posted in Bowring this month [medicine] i have to catch 2 buses enroute to reach Shivajinagar...today luckily on the way to market got a seat and when was just enjoying the moment a fat lady [with her bulky luggage] who had just boarded the bus from the back door[ladies are supposed to board the bus only from the front door in bang] came and stood next to me and remarked "let me sit in ur place with my huge luggage"...i was totally taken aback [!!!]and replied dryly "why shd i?..ladies are supposed to sit in the front rows so go there and ask"..for which she didnt bother to reply and i just sat there pretending like nothing happended.....[ would have helped her if she had been more polite or courteous]

nick names...

everyone will have quite a few nick names attached to them [and also pet names] and am no different...until now i have been called by abt half a dozen nick names and some of which are quite funny...here are some of those...

1) sanna-yeah sanna which means small [which is a misnomer now:D]....there is quite an interesting story for its origin...1)when we were born [myself and my TWIN bro] our total body weight was 3.6kg [1.6 + 2 kg] so according to IPA [indian paediatric association] we were in the LowbirthWeight(LBW)category [less than 2.5 kg is LBW]..and since [unluckily] i was thinner than him they started calling me sanna [which means small] and my twin bro dodda[ which means big]...this name exists even now and to be frank some of my relatives even today still think that my real name is sanna and not Pratap..:(...

2) chikka-really hate this name [sounds like a chicken]..this was kept by our neighbour and really used to hate her for calling me by this name.....

3) mule mansa [bony fellow]..this was kept by my cousin bro for the simple reason that he was able to count all the 12 ribs on my bare chest...

4) kaddi [a stick]..by my big bro who is very proud of himself for his so called physique and tries to show this by calling me by this name!!!!

so can u see that the real reason am thin is not me or my diet but the my birthweight and am just maintaining [with great difficulty and hard work :D] it .....
