It Pays to Remember Names and Faces

Two men approached each other on the street with a look of
recognition in their eyes. One said to the other, "Now wait a
minute, don't tell me, I know I know you, but I'm not sure of
where we met. Let me see if I can think of your name. I've got
it! We met in Miami Beach two years ago."
"No, I've never been to Miami Beach."
"Hold it, don't tell me—oh, yes, it was on the boardwalk
of Atlantic City that we met."
"Sorry, I've never visited Atlantic City."
"I've got it now! Chicago in 1953!"
"Nope, I was not in Chicago in 1953."
"Well, I know we've met, where do I know you from?"
"Idiot! I'm your brother!!"

Memory

Memory is one thing which everyone cares about and would do just anything to have it..i have seen many people complaining abt it that they just dont remember anything and everything...but how many of those really work for it[like any sports or art] sincerely??...only a hand full!!...
When i was in 2nd year mbbs my main problem was to remember things as it is from the text[to score marks!!] and many times used to get frustrated for not able to do so...
One day by chance i got hold of this wonder book written by H.Lorayne.In this book he explains many good practical techniques[like link system, peg, mnemonics and many more] with demonstrations...i have tried using these techniques and have found them to be quite useful!!...

check these out[Visualization technique has been applied here]

1)Indications of induction of labour-

2) 10 features of severe Pre-eclampsia

3) imagine a leg in an AC...just imagine and keep this picture in your mind...Legionnaire organism[causes pneumonia] common source of infection is contaminated AC...

p.s-if am using these techniques it doesnt mean i have a good memory..it just makes studying more interesting and interactive
sorry for the poor quality of the snaps:)

Aesops fable..1

THE MISCHIEVOUS DOG
There was once a Dog who used to snap at people and bite them without any provocation, and who was a great nuisance to every one who came to his master's house. So his master fastened a bell round his neck to warn people of his presence. The Dog was very proud of the bell, and strutted about tinkling it with immense satisfaction. But an old dog came up to him and said, "The fewer airs you give yourself the better, my friend. You don't think, do you, that your bell was given you as a reward of merit? On the contrary, it is a badge of disgrace."

Notoriety is often mistaken for fame.

Magic formula....!

We as human beings come across various problems in our life and tend to worry about them[rather than being concerned].I used to do the same thing :( until i came to know about this technique given in one of the Dale Carnegie"s book[not that it has completely banished my worries but atleast it has decreased it to some an extent] .However let me warn you that this technique is nothing new to you people and you would have applied this in your life and i need not stress on that. The problem in us is not ignorance but inaction and my purpose here is just to do something about applying them.

Basically there are 3 steps in the technique!

1) analyze the situation fearlessly and honestly and figure out what was the worst thing that can happen in any given situation[or failure]
2) after figuring out what is the worst that can possibly happen, accept it mentally and practically[most important step in the technique!!!]

3) from that time on calmly devote your time and energy to improve upon the worst that you have already accepted

apply this and see it working just like any mind recipe!!..:))

Live in "Day tight compartments"...a lesson by Dale Carnegie

In the spring of 1871, a young man picked up a book and read twenty-one words that had a profound effect on his future. A medical student at the Montreal General Hospital, he was worried about passing the final examination, worried about what to do,where to go, how to build up a practice, how to make a living.
The twenty-one words that this young medical student read in 1871 helped him to become the most famous physician of his generation. He organised the world-famous Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He became Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any medical man in the British Empire. He was knighted by the King of England. When he died, two huge volumes containing 1,466 pages were required to tell the story of his life.

His name was Sir William Osier-
" each one of you live with ''day-tight compartments' Touch a button and hear, at every level of your life, the iron doors shutting out the Past-the dead yesterdays. Touch another and shut off, with a metal curtain, the Future -the unborn tomorrows. Then you are safe-safe for today!.Shut off the past!Let the dead past bury its dead. ... Shut out the yesterdays which have lighted fools the way to dusty death. ... The load of tomorrow, added to that of yesterday, carried today, makes the strongest falter. Shut off the future as tightly as the past. ... The future is today. ... There is no tomorrow. The day of man's salvation is now "

books!.......

books......have always appreciated them whether they are fition or nonfiction.....the ones which have influenced me over years are

1)"how to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie...dont think this is as any other HR books which is full of philosophy...this book really gives you some practical tips about worrying..my favourite one is "life is too small to worry about small things"......

2)"How to win friends" by the same author...this is for those idiots who doesnt know a thing about relations and how to talk to people...this book explains the real nature of a persons conversation and how to go about it!...my favourite one is "when talking to people remember they are not creatures of intelligence[as many of them think] but creatures of emotion"

3)"the monk who sold his ferrari" by Robin Sharma...this book is one of the best by RS.....one of the few books which is able to convey its message to the reader in a sinple way....gives somke usefull tips about how to handle life and stres.....my favourite one is "Success is a journey not a destination"..........
