patience really helps..

Over years i have found out[by experience] that what ever situation ur in a little bit more patience at that very moment makes a lot of difference....like when you are constantly getting irritated while studying by others[mom especially] or when confronting an irritated child[due to sickness] and its parents or in obg labour rooms where the ever pouring admission [atleast 25-40 new in a 12 hr shift totaling around 60] makes u loose ur cool and frequently usually end up shouting at them.
At the start of my internship last yr i had made a decision..never frustrate out on an ailing patient's kins,a child's parents[from my personal experience] and on a pregnant lady having labour pains [which is equivalent to an amputated finger].Looking back at it now makes me really contended and happy that atleast somewhere i was right for a moment and treated the people the way they deserve.

p.s-
one of my close friends still regrets for shouting at those innocent pregnant ladies.
i loose my cool when it comes to incompetent nurses and ward boys.

legal now..

finally, atlast[and after little bit of luck must say] i got my name registered in my state council..tht means am a legally certified doc who can start practising and moreover people from now on can sue me for my misadventures[pretty scared]!....getting this work done itself was a big pain in the ass....extension,getting the duplicate challan and those stupid office people[our collg is a govn one] who make u go around 100 times to get a sign done.

Studying for long hours[though not consistent] has become a routine now...but i still feel internship was better with just work and little bit of academic thing.

Havent watched a single good movie from a month..quite a record for me....waiting for IM2..planning to see this one in big screen[hope this isnt a pseudo-3D like CotTs].

p.s-

spending 3 hrs[council people made me wait till evening so had no other go] alone[!!] in Mcd yest was just too aweful...now half an hour had to buy something to keep myself and those cleaners busy..[empty table here doesnt show tht i havent eaten anything!]

things i miss..

finally with the internship coming to an end [not counting the extension in ENT am doing] i would like to highlight the things which i think i liked and would miss from now on...

1-stipend-this may sound weird but frankly this is the thing i will miss the most..financially it helped and hope from now on i need not work part time till i get into a pg...

2-post duty brkfast-after 24 hrs duty this was the silver lining i was looking forward to each morning[post duty]..nothing more cherishing than a good brky[with coffee] on a post duty morning..will surely miss it [more so since most of the times pgs used to pay for it:P]

3-sisters-will miss those v rare cute sisters whom i worked with and were my good friends....

4-seminar perks-only reason we interns used to attend those boring post lunch seminars was the perk we used to get there-a simple tea/coffee and some snacks [and also a way to escape from ur ward work]

5-free samples-sometimes its tht more than the patients its the medical reps[MRs] who pester u with their products and medicines....we used to get a lot of such samples[most of which i never used] and sometimes even movie tickets!!

p.s-
thts our official pullover of the passing out batch...[brugandi color]...

D day

finally D day has arrived...finally graduating today....

dance,dance,dance...

yesterday we had our class socials [much like pre-graduation party without alcohol].After so many months [almost one yr] i got to meet many of my classmates whom i really missed during my internship.Rather than a simple get together it was more of a pre-graduation farewell party where we gad everything-a formal function,a trip down the memory line in the form of pics and in the end when we all by ourselves we ate, drank, talked[gossiped] and danced together.

finally graduating

"Success is a journey not a destination. The doing is usually more important than the outcome. Not everyone can be Number 1."-
Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr.

from the time i remember all i ever wanted was to get into the medical field. When anyone used to ask my friends wht they wanted to become rather than telling pilot, actor etc [and other fancy things] i used to ans just one thing ie DOCTOR.Now after 1642 of medical schoofinallyl and 365 days of training am finally graduating on 13th of this month!..:).....

nostalgic

with 10 more days to go for my internship...am already feeling very nostalgic.51/2 years of medical school is coming to an end with internship and finally the graduation ceremony coming up this 13th[march]!!...

last few days...

only few more days to go for my internship and am already feeling nostalgic..it seems like just yesterday i started it and now after almost one whole yr its almost over.

am in skin and std now [last one] which is quite cool[no night duties] compared to my previous one..plastic surg has been totally hectic with duties, wards works and ots. This place is called a mini court where almost all cases are MLCs[medico legal cases] with suicidal, homicidal burns cases being admitted round the clock. Moreover with such a high morbidity/mortality[every 2nd person dies] finally u end [atleast me] up loosing interest in the work.

these days hardly i feel like coming online...as said earlier am saturated and really need a good brk from this routine.

after my internship i will be a unemployed graduate.Think its quite tough to digest this fact and shd really plan and prepare for the upcoming pg exams.

inspired...

after 2 weeks of paeds i shd admit that am really enjoying it...first of all its after exams[aipg] which has made me totally relaxed[stress free!] and also it happens to my subj of interest.
Paeds is totally diffn..here u r more of a friend than a doc and children really adore u if u become one[not heroworship and all].They are just so pure and innocent which exactly makes me like them.Best part is that they just obey ur orders when they r told those golden words "chocolate"[often misused also].

p.s-

this is the first time in internship where am really enjoying my work...its just work and fun.

a patient politely requests today "mughe tonic likhkar do syrup nahi"!!
p.s.s-
One more duty coming up tomo...u just see few cases, sleep well[6-8hrs] and go home happily with a day off[HOD thinks we work our ass off during duties]...

as a vet doc...

One obvious similarity between a vet doc and a paediatrician is the patient..both cant talk[except for older ones] and diseases must be cured based on interpretations/histories of the attendars[parents]...and many times obviosly u end up making assumptions or rely on lab findings for the proper diagnosis.

one of the most absurb/annoying thing i have seen in opds r the parents themselves..they just exaggerate symptoms and animatedly describe things where they corelate every possible incident with the childs sickness..i agree tht parents get anxious abt their kins health but by doing so u just end up confusing the doc.

whether its a 10yr old or a 15yr old child[adolescent] parents still[immature ones] demand or syrups..wth!...15 yr old and still make them take syrups[which they hate really]!...plz grow up people!!

yesterday we had an identical twin nabiulla and sayiulla[names changed]...they were so identical that after examining Nulla we found out that in fact it was Sulla who was sick.

"injection dalvado" is the expression which we hear often..even for a simple sneeze/cough they demand[request] for injections and that too for a 2yr old ones...still havent understood whether its their ignorance which make them beahve like this or they just want to exploit the govn.

flashback...

place-casualty
time-night[around 11pm]
people involved-ortho pgs, patients and ward boy

in ortho its a common thing to get fracture cases during night duties and in most of the cases to stabilize[and also to decrease pain] pops[plaster of paris] are put as a initial emergency medical aid and further managed depending on the patient[finance]/docs.

actual scenario-
a patient with obvious fracture comes to the emergency and one of my pg after initial routine[history, doing MLC and xrays] decides to put pop and tells[request-u cant order these self important jerks!] one of the ward boys to put the pop...after everything [putting cast] the ward order plainly demands money[pretty hefty] from the patient telling the dr himself has asked for it[pure exploitation].
After a few days some how this pg comes to know abt this[from the patient themselves] and so from then on in a heroic way[he was in 1st yr then] decides to put all the casts himself[in order to save their money]...satisfied/with pride[after putting some] at last walks into the duty room and narrates[to his senior pg] all this...senior pg then calmly replies "now tht u have personally gone to put pop ward boy would charge double the amount saying he has personally called u for the work"

p.s-
that was the last time he put the cast himself in his life....
those who think all govn docs r corrupt r wrong....

fish market...

have u ever been to a fish market?[non vegs]
i have never been to one[am a egg eating veggie] but guess it will be somewhat similar to the ops in our departments on mondays...lots of people[with all sorts of complaints] shouting and running here and there and we like vendors trying to convince[or somehow escape] them somehow. This is so coz all the weekend cases would have been accumulated[unless its an emergency] and they on monday would just drop in into opds[even more so in ophthal since emergency cases r too less] causing the mad rush.

p.s-
Luckily for interns work is to just do LS and measure iop using tonometry
