after working in this department for 4 days i have realized one bitter truth...never like any subject theoretically for its practical aspects will be entirely different and in the end may disappoint you...to succeed here[in psych] u really need lots of patience[which i think i don't have] and a strong mind to cope with all the abnormal people u come across...
hope in the coming days at least i really enjoy working here..
p.s- cases seen so far
schizophrenia
alcohol dependence[every 5th person]
depression[every alternate person]
delusions[of infidelity,commonest type]
anxiety disorders[exams,work related]
impotence[obvious!]
and bipolar illness

I am glad that you do address the reality that such cases exist in India even though people like to attribute it to western cultures.
Good luck!
Last month I had gone for an Annual Health checkup (for office records) and what I saw in hospital made me think. I keep cribbing about being over weight and all and there are people who seriously ill and then I felt that we take our good health for granted.

But I am sure treating them as patients wud be tough. Do they need more of a doctor or more of life, if u ever faced that question then do share your experience with us
