this is our 4th week in obg and we have presented quite a few good cases.....today we saw a
hypertensive patient[condition is called as "preeclampsia"] where the patient had developed hypertension complicated as a complication of her pregnancy....this is quite common here[in lower middle class] and usually the treatment given[thankfully!] controls the hypertension and the out come in majority of cases are good!...
in the picture above u can see a tablet made of plastic filled with a liquid medication[nifedipine-an anti-hypertensive drug] which is given to the parient sub lingually[below the tongue] in hypertensive emergencies......!!!....
wanted to share this wonderful video about olympics!..

R u studyin to be a gynacologist?
I have a friend who had preeclampsia...she had to stay in the hospital weeks before her due date to make sure she and her baby were safe...and prior to her pregnancy...he bp was fine...so I guess, it's important to check any history of hypertension in the family and to watch your diet when you are pregnant.
And yes, sublingual med works faster I supposed...I have one for my heart. :)
Good job there...I will have you as my online medical consultant... ;)
